Terrestrial TV and Radio Aerials
Understanding the principals of radio waves is the starting block for choosing the correct type of aerial system.
The sole purpose of a TV or radio antenna (or aerial) is to collect as much transmitted signal as is required to reliably supply a
TV, set top box or radio with the information it requires whether digital or analogue. Choosing the correct type of aerial for any
particular application is key and many factors should be considered when making the correct choice. Firstly is your location in a
particularly good or poor signal area? Maybe on a clear day you can see the broadcast transmitter from your roof top or perhaps you
are surrounded by trees, behind one or more tall buildings or simply at the foot of a hill. These factors and more can and will
affect your reception potential and the options open to each situation.
There are many different designs of aerial with a ranging price tag and varying build quality but how and where each type should
be considered is the key question. A general rule of thumb for aerial installation is outside and the higher the better, but if the
highest available point of your property, such as a chimney stack, is obscured and blocked from receiving good quality and good
strength signal then this is not necessarily the best place to install.
We would always evaluate your surroundings taking signal readings where neccesary to find the best possible position
considering not only performance but aesthetics, safety and longevity. After all there is no point fitting an impressive looking
towering system with the biggest (with greatest wind loading), heaviest, tallest aerial system possible to achieve results
comparable with a more modest installation for it to be blown down in the first storm and possibly damaging your property.

If your existing, perhaps old, aerial installation is beginning to fail, either physically falling down or giving poor reception results, we can
also assess the quality and condition of the components and advise as to the best course of action moving forward. In some cases a repair could
be actioned replacing only the exhausted parts such as cabling or the antenna itself however we would always give the best advice to prolong the
longevity of any new parts. Any completely new installation can be guaranteed for parts and labour for 24 months so this is often the most sensible
and long term cost effective solution if your budget should allow.
Loft Aerial Installations.
Depending on the structure of your property and again your unique
location it may be that a relatively large high gain aerial, one that might not be suitable to your location outdoors because of wind
conditions, fitted in a loft or attic space, could be the most suitable position yielding satisfactory results and improved longevity.
In some cases this is the only option available to a customer where restrictions imposed by a
village association or a covenant do not allow the installation of visible TV reception aerials,
antennas and satellite dishes. Every situation and location is unique.
